To implement and institutionalize a comprehensive citywide sustainability program to:

  • Meet the requirements of Assembly Bill (AB) 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006;
  • Achieve measurable reductions in energy use, water consumption, and waste generation;
  • Increase renewable energy generation;
  • Maintain and enhance the existing job base while attracting new, sustainability-focused businesses;
  • Improve the quality of life of City residents through an increase in community amenities and diverse transportation choices

Program Initiatives/Actions:

  • Develop a comprehensive Sustainability Master Plan that establishes goals, strategies and objectives to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse emission levels;
  • Improve city recycling programs;
  • Implement the new Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris Recycling Ordinance and seek opportunities to further increase waste recycling and diversion from landfills;
  • Develop community wide programs to assist residents and businesses in becoming more energy efficient, thereby reducing utility bills;
  • Develop public education and outreach programs to help residents, businesses and community leaders better understand the benefits of sustainable practices;
  • Continue to promote water conservation activities within the community
